چکیده

In this study, two experiments were conducted to determine the point of subjective intensity equality (PSE) of pure tones and sinusoidal whole-body vibrations (WBV) at various frequencies (50Hz, 100Hz and 200Hz). In these experiments, sounds and vertical vibrations were simultaneously presented to subjects using circumaural headphones and a flat hard seat. In total, 10 participants were subjected to tones with a fixed loudness level (40 phon, 60 phon, 80 phon and 100 phon). The participants were asked to match the intensity of the vibration to the loudness of the tone, using the method of adjustment. In the first experiment, the participants were subjected to a vibration and tone with the same frequency. Alternatively, in the second experiment, the frequency of the vibration was maintained at 50Hz, while that of the tone was varied. The results revealed that a 20 phon increase in loudness level resulted in a 5-6 dB increase in matched acceleration level at loudness levels greater than 40 phon. This result was reproducible with small intra-individual variations; however, large inter-individual differences were observed.

Variability and sequential effects in cross-modality matching of area and loudness.

Individual subjects' performance was examined for cross-modality matching (CMM) of loudness to visual area, as well as for magnitude estimation (ME) of the component continua. Average exponents of power functions relating response magnitude to stimulus intensity were .73 for area, .20 for loudness, and 2.44 for CMM. Predictions of the CMM exponent based on ME were higher than the empirical valu...

Psychophysical Validation of a Proprioceptive Device by Cross-Modal Matching of Loudness

A large number of studies performed by S. S. Stevens, 1. C. Stevens and their collaborators have estimated the intensity of one sensory modality by way of another one related to the proprioceptive sensation of muscular force and limb position. As such, using a cross-modal matching procedure, it should be possible to associate a proprioceptive sensation with an auditory sensation (e.g. loudness,...

The neural correlates of subjectively perceived and passively matched loudness perception in auditory phantom perception

INTRODUCTION A fundamental question in phantom perception is determining whether the brain creates a network that represents the sound intensity of the auditory phantom as measured by tinnitus matching (in dB), or whether the phantom perception is actually only a representation of the subjectively perceived loudness. METHODS In tinnitus patients, tinnitus loudness was tested in two ways, by a...

Frequency-weighting Curve for Whole-body Vibrations

In a laboratory experiment, six male subjects were exposed to sinusoidal (0.8, 1.6, 3.15, 6.3 and 12.5 Hz) or random octave band-width white noise (mid-frequencies identical to those of the sinusoidal vibrations) whole-body vibration in xor y-directions, at six levels of magnitude (0.4, 0.8 and 1.6 m/s2 r.m.s. nonand frequency-weighted) with two repetitions. In order to examine time effects, ad...

Analysis of the dynamic behavior of the car user in the irregular terrain

Many people experience vibration effects on whole-body throughout their lives frequently. Vibrating energy absorbed is exposed all-body caused with vibration hazard in the vertically on body and biodynamic responses from body in speed 2.37 to 5.14 m/s could captivate with car seat on user body, so the vibration energy transferred to a seated people body. In this paper, the human body is modeled...
